Q: Did you change up your H game? Or did the H game change up on you?
👋Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to our 2021 year end review of our member’s Hermès Spending & Offers as part of our Ban Island’s Collection Guide. Each guide, I offer my research and insight as I tackle our members’ questions relating to our most coveted luxury handbags.
PS - Read till the end for a special announcement 👀 First of all, I’d like to give a big thank you to the Ban Island Community for participating! To return the favour, I will cut to the chase and give you the goods.
All currencies are in $USD.
1. How much do you need to pre-spend to get offered your first Hermès quota bag?
Got offered a quota bag this year 😊
Average non-bag spend = $15,776
Last year’s average non-bag spend with offer = $16,922
Those who did not get a quota bag this year
Average non-bag spend = $7,120
Last year’s average non-bag spend with no offer = $4,129
It looks like Hermès shoppers have pre-spent more money in 2021 than in 2020 with no luck on an offer 😞
Non-bag spending breakdown from participants this year:
2. Exactly how much non-bag spending compared to having received a quota bag?
Note: No participants were offered a quota bag without pre-spending this year.
This is compared to the 2% of participants who did not pre-spend at all, but were offered a quota bag in 2020. Definitely a rare and unlikely occurrence - this year especially.
3. Which Hermès store locations can I spend the least amount on non-bag items to get a quota bag?
We filtered for participants who received a quota bag.
Before you take a PCR test and hop on a flight to Geneva, we need to factor in the amount of data we have for the locations.
4. For our members that received quota bags, let’s take a look at which Hermès stores they shop at.
So based on the amount of data ANDthe average non-bag spending needed, the winners for a second year in a row are Honolulu and Paris.
And the Hermès store locations that gave out the most quota bags this year are London, Las Vegas, New York, Paris, and Honolulu.
Coincidentally, this is the same Top 5 as last year, just in a different order.
5. How much is everyone spending at Hermès this year?
This is total spend, not just non-bag spend. This includes 29.6% of participants who did not get an offer this year.
The bottom line: Hermès shoppers are spending an increased total amount of money this year than the last.
6. What Hermès quota bags were offered around the world this year?
The most popular colours offered this year were Noir, Etoupe, and Gold. The most popular non-neutral color this year was rose (pink). Quota bags in shades including Rose Extreme, Rose Confetti, Rose Sakura, and Rose Mexico (an SO colour this season) were offered this year.
The Birkin 25 was on 34.94% of participants' wish lists this year. No surprises there.
The Kelly 25 was on 25.30% participants' wish lists this year, yet only 12.05% of participants were offered one.
The Kelly 25 and Birkin 30 are coveted, but seem to be more difficult to get your hands on than the classic B25.
8. How much do I need to spend to be offered a Special Order or an Exotic Hermès Bag?
On average, it took participants 3+ years to be offered an SO bag
5+ years to be offered an exotic
And 7+ years to be offered a limited edition Hermès bag.
So hmm… yeah, the H game is a long-term commitment.
What are you ladies going to do this 2022? More importantly, what will Hermes do to us? 😊
Send me any questions you may have, and enjoy this fabulous new year.
