Q: How to play the H game? How much do I have to pre-spend to get an offer? – Collection Guide #2
👋Hello there, I’m Angel, and welcome to this week's 🔓members-onlyedition🔓of Ban Island’s Collection Guide. Each guide, I will offer my research and insight as I tackle members’ questions relating to our most coveted luxury handbags.
As I humbly navigate this H journey myself, I’m intrigued and fascinated by this very question. I would chat with friends, people on FB groups who have scored an amazing offer and the answers would vary. It seems like the H game is a function of:
[the city you shop at] X [the SA you have] X [your relationship with said SA] X [purchase history] X [what’s on your wish list.]
As I gathered these amazing examples so generously shared by all my H sisters before me, I noticed a bit of a pattern. (Some actionable insights, nothing scientific of course, since H would never do something so consistent and easily solvable.)
So, by the power of the Ban Island community, we unofficially conducted the Official 2020 Hermès Spending vs Offers so we can return the favor, and share these actionable real-talk insights with you.
Stop talking Angel, let’s get into it. All currencies in this survey used are in USD.
1. Let’s put this 1:1 or 2:1 pre-spending (i.e. non-bag spending) to rest. Exactly how much “purchase history” do you need per year to get to the first Hermès quota bag?
Got offered a quota bag 😊 Average non-bag spend = $16,921.64
Those who DID NOT get a quota bag this year Average non-bag spend = $4,128.79
Non-bag spending breakdown from members this year:
2. Exactly how much non-bag spending compared to having received a quota bag
Note, two percent of participants said they did not spend at all before they were offered a quota bag. It can happen.
3. Which Hermès store locations can I spend the least amount on non-bag items to get a quota bag?
We filtered for those who received a quota bag.
Whoa whoa whoa, let’s not all fly to Philadelphia now. We need to factor in the amount of data we have for the locations.
4. For our members that received quota bags, let’s take a look at which Hermès stores most of them shop at.
So based on the amount of data AND average non-bag spend needed, the clear winners are Honolulu and Paris.
And the Hermès store locations giving out the most quota bags are New York, Paris, Las Vegas, London, and Honolulu.
5. How much is everyone spending with Hermès this year?
This is total spend, not just non-bag spend. This included 45% of people who did not get an offer yet.
6. My SA told me the bag I wanted was NOT available. So what quota bags were given out around the world?
The most popular colors offered are Noir, Gold, Etain and Etoupe, but there was a wide range of colors including Hermès brand favorites such as Craie and Gris Perle.
